Membership in Sigma Xi is by nomination and is conferred in one of two ways:

Full Membership

Conferred upon any individual who has shown noteworthy achievement as an original investigator in a field of pure or applied science or engineering.

Associate Membership

Available to any individual who has, through initial research achievement in a field of pure or applied science or engineering, shown an aptitude for research. Please see the Qualifications for Membership for more information. Students and non-students follow the same review proccess.

Individuals who were previously elected as an Associate Member and who now meet the requirements for Full Membership can apply for promotion to Full Membership.

To request nomination through the UC Sigma Xi Chapter do one of the following:

1. Contact Brooke Crowley.
2. Membership directly through UC: Download and fill out the “Nominate via Chapter” nomination form, as either a Word 97-2003 (doc) or Word (docx) form and send it to Brooke Crowley or present it to any chapter officer, who will get it to the Membership Committee. Include the information described on the second page of the form for consideration by the UC Membership Committee and fill in the University of Cincinnati as the Chapter that you wish to join. You can add your own nominators or the Membership Committee, once they have approved your nomination, can find you two Nominators. Nominators must be Full Members and fill out the bottom portion of the nomination form, including their membership IDs and signatures.  If you wish to find your own nominators, please reach out to Brooke Crowley for assistance or refer to our membership page.
3. Membership through the Sigma Xi national website:
   1. You can request membership through a local Sigma Xi Chapter (Univ. of Cincinnati) using their forms. It will then come back to the UC Chapter Committee and go through the same process as in step 2, above.
   2. You can self-nominate without choosing UC as a Chapter through the National Office. See the website. Then, you will not be affiliated with our Chapter.

Note that the UC Chapter nominates, but only select applications have their dues funded by the Chapter. The National Sigma Xi new member dues rates are published. The UC Chapter annual dues are $20 per year in addition to these fees.
 
The National Sigma Xi office will issue an official Certificate of Membership with the signatures of our Chapter officials. We will announce your name and present you with this Certificate at one of our two annual Mixers. If you are unable to attend, we will arrange to send you the Certificate
